1. Choose a Free Audio Recording Software

In our example, we have a Google Slides presentation titled ‘Wedding Anniversary Memories.’ We want to add a personalized audio recording to enhance the emotional impact and personal touch of the slide.

Before you start recording, choose one of these recommended free audio recording applications, which are easy to download and use:

Audacity: Best for extensive editing options; download from the official Audacity website.

Ocenaudio: Ideal for quick and simple recordings; available on its official site.

WavePad: Good for detailed editing needs; download from the WavePad site.

In our example, we will use the Audacity recording application.

2. Record Your Audio Using the Software

Install and open your chosen software. Look for the ‘Record’ button, typically represented by a red circle. Press it to start recording your audio. Ensure you’re in a quiet room to avoid background noises.

When you’re finished, press the ‘Stop’ button, usually shown as a square.

3. Save the Recorded Audio

To ensure compatibility with Google Slides, save your audio in MP3 format. If you are using Audacity, click on ‘File‘, then select ‘Export Audio.’

A dialog box will appear asking how you would like to export your file. You can choose to share it to audio.com or export it to your computer. For example, we will select the option to export to computer

Choose a memorable file name and select a location on your computer where you can easily find it later. Finally, confirm your choices by clicking the ‘Export’ button.

4. Upload the Audio File to Google Drive

After saving your audio file to your computer, you need to upload it to Google Drive, as Google Slides can only insert audio files that are stored in Google Drive. Open your web browser, navigate to Google Drive, and sign in if necessary.

Click the ‘New’ button found on the top left side of the screen, then select ‘File upload’.

Locate the MP3 file you just saved, select it, and click ‘Open’ to start uploading the file to your Google Drive. Once the upload is complete, the file will be available in your Google Drive for use in Google Slides.

5. Choose the Slide Where You Want to Add the Audio

Scroll through your Google Slides presentation and click on the slide where you want the audio to be played. For example, we will use the title page of our Wedding Anniversary presentation.

6. Upload and Insert the Audio File into the Slide

To insert your audio, click ‘Insert’ in the top menu of Google Slides, and select ‘Audio.’

Then choose ‘My Drive’. Find and select the MP3 file you saved earlier, then click ‘Insert’ to upload it to your slide.

7. Set the Audio Playback Options in Google Slides

Once the audio is uploaded and appears as an icon on your slide, click on it to open ‘Format options’ on the right side.

Here, you can set the audio to play automatically when the slide appears or only when clicked. Adjust these settings based on how you want the audio integrated into your presentation.

8. Preview the Slide to Ensure the Audio Plays Correctly

To test the audio, click ‘Slideshow’ at the top right of Google Slides. Ensure that the timing and playback settings are as you intended. Make any necessary adjustments by revisiting the audio settings.
